Illustration Love

Hello!! Today is my sister Caroline’s Birthday – and I can’t speak to her until she phones me!!! She and her hubby are off doing “The Whale Trail” – a 5 day hike along the South African South Coast. It is whale season, so I’m hoping they’ve seen a lot of them!! Anyway – there is very limited cell-phone reception along the route so I can’t phone her.

So – this is my way of saying Happy Birthday Caroline!! She is the family artist, and I’ve chosen today to share some illustrations (not hers!!)  that inspire me and remind me that it is spring. Aren’t they all so beautiful?

Artists from top: louise cunningham ; susana del bana; brittany burton; jo klima; katrin coetzer

Caroline has done some lovely work for my new stationery collection and calendar for 2013 – can’t wait to show it to you in the next few months!!

Happy Wednesday!

watercolour trends…

Hello everyone – it’s the middle of the week already!!!!! eeeeck….

Have you noticed the trend lately of using watercolours for stationery? I must admit that I am loving it, and have learned a few tricks in photoshop to use a watercolour effect in my designs (that I’m working on ……). I don’t have too much experience in watercolours, but my sister is very talented in this medium, so I can’t wait to see what she comes up with (maybe tomorrow I’ll show you a few of her watercolour designs!!) Another person who is really talented and creative with watercolours is Lesley Shewring, who often adds watercolour touches to her colour me pretty posts. And if you’re looking for a lovely watercolour seamless background for a blog, pop on over to see what Jo Klima has created at August Empress.

I need to find the time to play with some watercolours methinks!!

The art of Jill Ricci

Hello Everyone!! Apologies for my absence – my husband and the kids are at home on holiday, so between all the Twine orders and doing things with them, my blog has taken a bit of a backseat!! It may happen again this week, but next week all will be back to normal again.

I know I’ve said this before, but isn’t Pinterest a wonderful thing! I find myself wondering around the boards, and finding so much inspiration, for both my work and my home. (If you want to see my boards go here). Anyway – today I discovered the art of Jill Ricci. Remember “The Wall” in the King’s Speech – you know the one I mean behind the couch – with the layers and layers of paper and colours resulting in the most beautiful texture. Well her art reminds me of that wall – but with more colour and maybe a touch of a moroccan influence. You may interpret it differently, but I’m sure you’ll agree that it is truly beautiful!

I love the textures, shapes and colours! What do you think?

Valentine Inspiration

Well Hello and welcome to my little space in blogland - it’s good to have you stop by!!

I (once again) have passed a self-imposed deadline - this time for finalising my Valentine designs. Blame it on my complete enthusiasm for Your Darling Blog online workshop which is taking up my time – very enjoyably!! So today I had to reign myself in and get things finished (….I am so fortunate to have too much to do – all of which I love doing!!). I’m going to share some of my inspiration with you today, and later in the week you’ll have a peek at the finished product.

I LOVE exploring the maze that is Pinterest, and when I need ideas I go to my pinboards. These are a few of the images that have inspired me this time – specifically the colours, textures, quotes …..

As you can see I’m loving illustrations and the watercolour effect. Soon I’ll show you what I have created.
